Open Question: learning webdesign? I am php coder?

I know javascript and a bit of css. I mean , I know all the basics of css , and can position elements after some effort.
But now I want to learn webdesign, my background is basically a php coder. My aim is not create gorgeous templates, but simple templates that don’t look too amateurish.
I am looking for a structured online course , that could teach me web design from the start. Willing to pay a little as well.

I have this great idea for a new social networking site and I was wondering if any of you know of any books about the process of creating and pitching a social networking site.

I don’t have the funds nor nearly as much knowledge of webdesign that I would need to create a social networking site so I would most likely be pitching the idea.

Also what measures would I take to protecting my idea from being stolen after I pitch it to different investors/companies.?

My situation is that I live with my parents, i’m 25. We all work and are trying to save for a home. We aren’t very rich at all. Anyways. I had been saving for a DSLR camera hoping to maybe use it as a tool for my webdesign business – still in the making. I bought the camera – £1050. But now i just feel so guilty!!! Like I should be saving that money for us as a family, but instead i’ve bough this very expensive piece of equipment. Its such a horrible feeling – as I feel so selfish and it looks like I don’t care about my folks. When the truth is I love them – ALOT!

Have you ever felt guilty for buying something expensive for yourself? what did you do – change you mind and get a refund?

Hi I have a website that’s about web design, SEO, graphic design, etc. I wanted to gain more traffic to my site so I made accounts at E-zine, and a few other article directories. I wanted to post the articles I have on my website on those article directories with links to my site, so people that read my articles there can be guided to my website and also read the same articles and of course more on my site. My question is: If the articles on my site and on the article directory sites are the same, does that count as duplicate content? I know google doesn’t allow duplicate content but does this count as duplicate content? Would the article directories even allow that? Thanks!

Open Question: How can I scan my ftp server for large files?

after 2 years of webdesign I still feel like a noob.

I know there are a lot of files on my ftp server I don’t need anymore and I would like to scan for all that are larger than 100 mb so that I can free up some diskspace

Checking every folder and subfolder is impossible to do manually. Is there a way I can scan for these files using filezilla or something else?

Please give me some instructions if you can.

I can I make something that looks like the center scrolling picture with correlating number on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/). I am doing this for the sports page for my school. I have been working on the site for a while my brain is a bit fried so if you could post code or an idea either way would be could i can figure it out. THX!!!!!
